For Synagogues
Synagogues throughout North America are going green! Energy-saving (and money-saving) compact fluorescent lightbulbs are replacing standard lightbulbs, energy audits are identifying areas of energy loss and solutions, Styrofoam and other disposables are being phased out and no longer used for kiddush. New synagogues are being built with environmental implications in mind, mitzvah days offer hands-on opportunities to protect the environment, rabbis are giving eco-sermons, Tu B'Shvat seders are becoming standard. Some synagogues have installed solar ner tamids so that the eternal light is powered by sunlight, a clean and renewable energy resource. Hanukkah is a wonderful time to start greening your synagogue, and the following programs and resources will help you get started.
