Green Course:
Students for the Environment in Israel

Green Course (Megama Yeruka), the only nation-wide student environmental organization in Israel, and the primary “activist arm” of the environmental movement, was founded in 1997 under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel. Its growth and development as an independent organization now encompasses 20 chapters and over 3,000 volunteers on campuses throughout the country. University and college campuses produce the future leadership and decision-makers of Israel and today’s students will be at the forefront of shaping its cultural, social, and scientific images for both itself and the world community.

The Green Course mission is to educate this leadership, instilling in them an awareness of environmental concerns that impact the various fields they are studying. Through the empowerment and training of activists on campuses throughout the country, we equip student populations to expand their educational perspectives to their surrounding environment and communities, and to expand their notion of “community.”

The largest environmental activist organization in Israel, Green Course uses the enthusiasm and creativity of its volunteers to impact our five major channels for action:

  • Leadership Development
  • Public and Media Activism
  • Advocacy for Environmental Issues in Israel
  • Education
  • Propagating the Use of Environment-Friendly Facilities and Resources
The Green Course National Chapter is based in Tel Aviv, for information of how you can get involved in Israel contact Yael Cohen, yael@green.org.il.
