Recycle all newspaper in your house.
Use the comic pages as wrapping paper.
Magazines and
Catalogs
Recycle old magazines and catalogs.
Cut down on unused catalog subscriptions.
Share magazines with your friends or donate them to local hospitals.
Cardboard and
Paperboard
Buy products (such as cereal) in bulk or larger sizes.
Recycle all cardboard and paperboard.
"Junk Mail"
(mail that is sent
to your house that
no one in your
family requested)
Write to: Main Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association, 6 East 43rd Street, New York, NY 10017 and ask them to remove your family members' names from mailing lists. (Check with your family first!)
Grocery Bags
and Lunch Bags
Bring your own canvas or string bag or already-used paper and plastic bags when you shop.
Don't use bags at all when you have only a few items.
Buy a reusable lunch bag, or use the same paper lunch bag as long as you can.
Tissue Paper and
Paper Towels
Use sponges to clean spills instead of paper towels or tissue paper.
Buy tissue and towel brands made from recycled paper.
Compost paper towels, napkins, plates, and coffee filters.
Other Paper
(school paper,
wrapping paper,
notebooks, etc.)
Buy recycled paper.
Be sure to reduce, reuse, and recycle paper products whenever possible.
