Energy and Environment Intern

About COEJL: The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life is an initiative of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. COEJL works on Jewish-community based environmental advocacy on a federal (and occasionally state) level towards the ultimate goal of combating climate change and protecting the environment. The primary advocacy issues for this year will include, but not be limited to, international climate finance, endangered species protections, and the Clean Power Plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Building educational materials for constituents based on ongoing environmental legislative issues
  • Researching and tracking state and federal legislation
  • Creating action alerts and online campaign materials
  • Coordinating with government, environmental leaders, and faith partners
  • Working collaboratively with staff on grassroots organizing campaign
  • Additionally, an intern in this position would be able to pursue advocacy and campaign projects according to their individual strengths and interests.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with an academic background in environmental science, public policy, or a related field
  • Experience in activism, advocacy, and/or direct action (in any area)
  • Research experience
  • Great people skills, a sense of humor, and experience working collaboratively
  • Proficiency in Outlook, WordPress, SalsaLabs a plus
  • Attention to detail
  • Jewish community background

Communications Intern

About COEJL: The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life is an initiative of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. COEJL works on Jewish-community based environmental advocacy on a federal (and occasionally state) level towards the ultimate goal of combating climate change and protecting the environment. The Jewish Council for Public Affairs is the public affairs arm of the organized Jewish community and serves as the advisory body for the 16 national and 125 local Jewish community relations organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Run the day-to-day social media
  • Assist in writing press statements, speeches
  • Prepare team for interviews, panel presentations
  • Draft newsletter emails, resource materials
  • Additionally, an intern in this position would be able to pursue advocacy and campaign projects according to their individual strengths and interests.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student or recent graduate with an academic background in English, communications, or a related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience in advocacy
  • Sense of humor
  • Proficiency in Outlook and with social media (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Knowledge of WordPress, SalsaLabs a plus
  • Attention to detail
  • Jewish community background
