Brit Milah/Baby Naming Ceremony
As my parents planted before me, so do I plant for my children - Talmud Ta’anith 23a
~Thinking Outside the Gift Box~
- Purchase a tree to be planted in Israel in honor of a newborn baby! If you also wish to add a material gift component, www.ababyatree.com (via JNF) has lovely 100% organic onesies, burp cloths, stuffed animals, blankets, all of which can be personalized upon request!
- Donate money in the baby’s honor to a charity that you or the parents support.
- Here are some other original ways to donate:
- Support environmental research projects or help protect endangered species and habitats through the Nature Conservancy and have an e-card sent while doing it!
- Find community-based eco-projects such as climate change education, green technology, and reforestation through Global Giving Green!
- Adopt an endangered animal!
- Need more ideas? Try the Charity Navigator.
- Invest in the baby and invest in renewable energy. Get the 411 on socially and environmentally responsible investing! Then look into buying sustainable stocks or donating to environmental research companies, including Israeli efforts in alternative energy usage such as the Arava Power Company, the Israel Renewable Energy Cooperative, and other renewable energy businesses in Israel!
~Material Gifts Rethought~
When the occasion calls for a gift you can hold, our material suggestions are sustainably bold!
- It may not be fair trade, but they’ll love it if you make it yourself. Why not knit the baby a new blanket or sweater?
- Gift Wrap Tip: Use part of your gift as wrapping paper! Bundle up those toys or new clothes in a baby blanket!
