Mother’s/Father’s Day
Honor your father and your mother, so that your days will be lengthened upon the land that Hashem, your G-d, gives you. Exodus 20:12
What better way to honor a parent by truly lengthening our days through responsible, environmental actions?

- Your parents spent a lot of energy on you-show they your love with a gift to the environment! Buy carbon offsets in your parents' name!
- Invest in your parent and in renewable energy. Get the 411 on socially and environmentally responsible investing! Then look into buying sustainable stocks or donating to environmental research companies, including Israeli efforts in alternative energy usage such as the Arava Power Company, the Israel Renewable Energy Cooperative, and other renewable energy businesses in Israel!
- Plant a tree in honor of this day! You can do this in Israel, America, or any country or backyard of your choice!
- As your parents helped you develop and grow, enable other parents to sustainably raise their children. Some suggestions are: American Jewish World Service, Heifer International, and Kiva.
- With a Drive Neutral Certification, help mom or dad neutralize his/her carbon emissions for a whole year!
- Make an impact on the world in honor of your parent by donating to a charity. Try the Charity Navigator .
- Support environmental research, protect endangered species and habitats through the Nature Conservancy and have an e-card sent while doing it!
- Help fund community-based eco-projects such as climate change education, green technology, and reforestation through Global Giving Green!
- Give your parent tickets to a show, a certificate to a favorite restaurant, a pass to a botanical garden or national park!
- Subscribe your parent to an environmental magazine such as National Geographic or buy an interesting environmental book!
- Do it yourself!
- Make your own gift and add on the sentiment! Decorate your own picture frame and put a picture of a favorite moment with you and your parent!
- Make your parent a special dinner with his/her favorite foods (try Local Harvest and Tuv Ha’artetz)-you can even sign mom or dad up to receive regular deliveries of fresh produce from those Community Supported Agriculture(CSA) farms.
