The Jewish Energy Network is building a team of Jewish individuals to be energy advocates in their communities.
Our Jewish faith is informed by strong traditions of Jewish environmental stewardship and tikkun olam, or repair of the world. Within the Jewish community, the challenges of climate change and energy independence are of special concern. We can confront these challenges by internalizing our Jewish ideals within our institutions and communities.
Jewish leaders from throughout the country have signed the Jewish Energy Covenant Campaign declaration, setting the goal to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 14% by 2014, which is the next Shmittah, or sabbatical, year in the Jewish calendar.
The Jewish Energy Network operates in support of this goal, empowering Jewish leaders by providing them with skills and resources to transform their communities through energy advocacy and reduction. Jewish Energy Network members will contribute to the community-wide goal of the Jewish Energy Covenant Campaign, and increase awareness of the morality and necessity of combating climate change and energy independence.
