Dr. Orah Rein-Moshe Ecosystem Scientist, Rebbetzin 7890 Palacio Del Mar Dr. Rein is an ecosystem scientist with an emphasis in water quality, watershed management and soil resources. She obtained a B.S. with a triple major in Biology, Environmental Science and English from Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts. She received her Ph.D. in Ecosystem Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She investigated the use of vegetative buffer strips to protect water quality by filtering agricultural runoff, stabilizing steep slopes and trapping contaminated sediments leaving a conventional strawberry farm. She compared native grasses to non-native grasses to determine optimal species composition for both reducing nonpoint source pollution and restoring native grasslands. Dr. Rein has over 15 years of consulting experience, in addition to managing scientific research studies and participating in planning and public policy issues. She has extensive experience in project management, particularly large, complex projects, where interagency coordination and public outreach were integrally important. With her diverse background, Dr. Rein has wide experience in working with local, state and federal agencies, private institutions and small non-profit organizations. She has organized professional workshops and conferences and guest lectured at several universities in New York and California, as well as presenting papers at dozens of conferences. Dr. Rein has contributed to her field in a uniquely Jewish way. She founded the Santa Cruz chapter of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL) and consistently searches for new ways to raise awareness in both arenas. She participated in strategy meetings and taught workshops at COEJL national meetings. Her husband is ordained as an orthodox Rabbi. She is an observant Jew and is particularly interested in water issues through a torah lens. She currently provides lectures and environmental Jewish programming in the Boca Raton community.
