An Open Letter
Shalom friends of the environment!
Tu B'Shvatthe New Year of the Treeshas been referred to in recent years as the Jewish Earth Day. It is a time when the frozen ground thaws and the trees begin to drink water from the soil in the land of Israel. It is a time when we honor the cycles and recycling of nature.
In this section of COEJL's website, you will find:
- sample seder reflections, hagaddot, and resources
- essays and text study regarding our relationship to nature and our Jewish environmental values
- Tu B'Shvat activities and craft projects
- everyday conservation actions
- and more...
Winter is still with us. Nature seems asleep.
The trees stand with black and brown branches against the pale winter sky.
In the Land of Israel
spring is almost here.
Flowers begin to dot the fields,
almond trees begin to blossom.
Heavy winter rains are over,
gentler showers fall;
sap begins to rise in trees. |
We wish you a joyous and meaningful Tu B'Shvat,
The COEJL Staff
