ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY AGENDA The Endangered Species Act The Endangered Species Act is the cornerstone of the United States’ efforts to protect the plants and wildlife that God created to share this green earth with us. Without it we would no longer look skyward toward the majesty of the bald eagle in flight. Our children would never experience the thrill of seeing a grizzly bear in the wild, and the cry of the jaguar would have long since been silenced. We must preserve the critical habitats that make up the breeding and feeding grounds essential for the continued survival of these and so many other endangered species. Therefore, we must resist the efforts of special interests to push Congress to weaken the essential safety net provided by the Endangered Species Act. We must work to ensure it is not weakened through overt or covert measures. Any alterations to the Endangered Species Act must be taken with the interests of the many protected species as the focus. Unfortunately, too often this is not the case and as such we must exercise our right and responsibility as people of faith to speak in defense of the Endangered Species Act as it stands and against its manipulation at the behest of those who honor profits over prophets. |
