5 GREAT REASONS TO DONATE TO COEJL

1. COEJL’s Message is Unique.

Along with partners from other faith communities, we bring a moral and religious message on the environment to the public and decision-makers. We cut through the familiar technical arguments to clarify the values at stake in environmental policy.

“The religious community has played an important role in the energy debate. It is vital that the ethical dimension of our energy policy be understood, and I commend COEJL and its partners for their efforts to raise these issues.”

Senator Joseph Lieberman
(D-CT)

2. The Diverse COEJL Community.

An extraordinary and diverse community of individuals has assembled around COEJL’s mission. We work together to protect the environment and bring vitality to Jewish life.

“COEJL is visibly finding its way into the lives of diverse Jewish institutions. I believe strongly in its promise for both Jewish life and the environment”

Rabbi Ismar Schorsch, Chancellor
Jewish Theological Seminary of America
New York, NY

3. Greening Synagogues.

COEJL is working to transform four synagogues into centers of environmental awareness, stewardship, and justice. This project will serve as a prototype for synagogues in U.S. metropolitan areas and with houses of worship from Christian and other faith traditions.

For me, as a representative of one of the new 'Greening Synagogues,' [COEJL] was particularly helpful to see the juxtaposition of the decisions involved with greening an existing structure versus making good moral and environmental decisions when creating a structure.

John Feinberg
Bnai Keshet
Montclair, NJ

4. COEJL Community e-Bulletin.

COEJL’s monthly e-Bulletin serves as a consistent connection to our supporters. It includes holiday resource materials, highlights about Jewish environmental initiatives around North America, updates about the latest on Capitol Hill, and ways for people to get involved.

“COEJL’s e-Bulletin is filled with helpful resources and up-to-date advocacy campaigns for immediate action. It’s one of the most useful tools our congregations have to learn about the environment and what they can do to protect it.”

Rabbi Marla Feldman, Director
Commission on Social Action of Reform Judaism
New York, NY

5. Jewish Environmental Leadership Institute.

For more than eight years, the COEJL Mark & Sharon Bloome Jewish Environmental Leadership Institute has brought together hundreds of preeminent and emerging leaders in the field of Judaism and the environment.

“The strongest tool to fight environmental neglect is the spiritual movement that COEJL is organizing. It is affirming as a Jew to find other Jews who stand for the same things I do.”

Adam Werbach, Past National President
Sierra Club
San Francisco, CA
