COEJL Legislative Update
Pesticide Bill

Washington, D.C. (June 29, 2005) - Earlier today Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) offered an amendment to the Interior Appropriations bill that would prohibit the EPA from accepting, considering or relying on the results of human pesticide tests and prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from funding such tests during the next fiscal year. Without this amendment, the government could have relied on data from pesticide experiments conducted on pregnant women, infants, and even fetuses still in utero.
Thankfully, the amendment (S. 1023) passed by a vote of 60-37. The support of the faith community for this amendment was crucial to its passage, and COEJL played a leading role in organizing this effort. Please contact your Senator’s office and thank them for their support (yea) of the Boxer amendment, or, if necessary, let them know that you are disappointed in their vote (nay).
