Description
  1. Make copies of Genesis 1:1 - 2:3 (the seven days of Creation). One between two is adequate. Or use copies of the Tanakh itself.
  2. Set up the room to include an open space for presenting performances.
  3. Hand out the copies and have the children read them. Alternatively,
read the story aloud to them and have them follow it.
  4. Divide the class or let them form themselves into 7 groups, or 6 if you prefer to leave out the Sabbath, in which the only 'character' is God. Allocate each group one day from the story.
  5. The groups now have, say, 20 minutes in which to prepare a 3-5 minute presentation of their day and what was created on it. They can improvise a playlet, do a mime or dance, or sing a song; it is up to them. The clothes and materials are available to make props and costumes, the instruments for sound effects.
  6. At the end of the 20 minutes, the groups in turn present their 'day' to the rest of the class, in the order of the creation story.
  7. You may wish, as a follow-up to ask the class to discuss or respond
    in writing to these questions:
    1. Why are the various parts of the Earth created in this order?
    2. What does it mean for us that human beings were created last of all?
    3. Why is a day of rest included in the story?
    4. Do you think that the world took just one week to make?
